Important Getting Started Notes
- Previous version of Vienna 2 will need to be uninstalled prior to installing Vienna v2.0 build 20090910.
- Run the setup.exe file from the Vienna zip file.
- Setup.exe is a "bootstrapper" which will check for .NET and SQL Server installations. If .NET and SQL Server installation was not found on the target machine, they will be automatically downloaded and installed by the Vienna’s setup file.
- Vienna on first run will bring up a window to setup a database connection.
- So long as all SQL services are running you should be able to select your DB.
New features in this release
These are the featuers added in the v2.0 build 20090910 which were not available in v2.0 build 20090630:
URL Validation to support IP Addresses
URL Validation now validates a URL with an IP Address such as http://192.168.1.1/site/default.aspx
Decimal Fix in International Character support
An error has been fixed for decimal field (report version) in the International Character support. This previously affected the Import/Export of projects across different characterset.
These are the features added in the v2.0 build 20090630 which were not available in the previous builds.
Start-up Screen (Splash screen)
Vienna on first run will bring up a window to setup database connection.
If using Vista Based operating systems with UAC (User Account Control) Enabled, Vista does not allow creation of the database or enabling SQLBrowser or SQLExpress services. By default the user who is logged in is not given administrative privileges by UAC. In this case Vienna will automatically open ServiceStarter.exe as Administrator to start the services such as SQLBrowser or SQLExpress. To create the database, Vienna will also run ViennaDBSetup.exe which also runs with administrative privileges to create the database.
On subsequent runs, if any of the SQL Services were stopped, Vienna will start the ServiceStarter.exe application as administrator to start those services.
International Character Support:
Vienna Database and all the Business Objects in Vienna have been updated to support International characters.
The description fields within Vienna have been updated to store 65000 characters instead of only 4000 characters.
Vienna now stores text in any language available.
- Note that this is different from multi-language support previously implemented. This is a separate functionality. The multi-language support will turn Vienna’s application text into any other language provided the resource file is available.
